A definite summer time white wine. Floral bouquet of orange blossoms and peach. Big fruit upon opening. This wine should be served cold. It's light and easy drinking. It's also great alone or with a salad. Viognier is a little too sweet for my tastes, but some people love it for its fruitiness. You should try it if your taste is toward a little sweet! A definite steal at this price.

Pinot Noir is a fickle grape to grow but the Dundee Hills region in Oregon has the right climate to produce some of the country's finest Pinot Noir. This was my favorite winery on my trip through Oregon, Dundee Hills region. This Pinot Noir was the best tasting of my trip. Archery Summit makes superb Pinot Noir and The Red Hills Estate is no exception.  Great deep inky color, jammy on the palate with a nice mouth feel and a long finish. Hints of tobacco. I recommend using good  Riedel Glassware to enhance your experience.    ... Read More »

Nice alternative to Cabernet.  This wine is made from the Malbec grape which is very pronounced in Argentina. The wine is very fruity -may be a little bit too fruity for me with hints of tobacco and cherry. Nice mouthfeel with a short finish. A good wine for the value. Good for eveyday drinking, but nothing exceptional.

What a nice wine from De Pont Cellars in Oregon. This winery makes some really great, easy drinking Pinot Noir. Oregon produces some great Pinot Noir, especially in the Dundee Hills region. Pinot Noir is a great alternative to Cab for a summer BBQ and goes great with salmon or other oily fish.

I bought this wine during my trip to De Ponte Cellars winery and was surprised on how well it tasted after survivng a 6 hr. plane ride.  Upon opening it was intensely fragrant. It's a nice Pinot with low tannins and medium bodied. Nice mouth feel and short finish. A great Pi ... Read More »

Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignons can be very surprisingly good. Not that I'm knocking Napa Valley. Napa has some exceptional Cabs but Sonoma Cabs are sometimes an undiscovered gem.

WIth this said, Chateau St. Jean is a very nice cabernet from Sonoma. I opened it up and let it breathe for no more than 1/2 hr and was very surprised at the bouquet of coffee and blackberry. Nice medium body wine, not very tannic. Just right. Smooth. I finished the whole bottle during the meal.

This is a nice Cab not commanding the Napa prices! Read More »

Sometimes you want to try something other than a California Cab, so this was the day I was going to experiment with a Washington State Cabernet. A really nice everyday cabernet! This wine has a deep garnet color with hnts of cherry and coffee upon opening. The finish was  a little short but for the price it had exceptional value The wine was a little closed but opened up after 1 hr.

Once in a while I get tired of big Californian Cabernet's so I hunt down an alternative. When I'm on the prowl I usually end up at The Wine Library because they have such a great selection and I'm a Vayniack.

After searching I found a Montepulciano wine from Italy made from the Sangiovese grape. This really was a nice Italian red wine, not as complex as the Califonia Cabs that I normally drink. It had a great garnet color and fruity bouquet. Very easy to drink with soft tannins. Medium to full bodied. I let the wine breathe about 1hr before serving.Very fruity and jammy. Yummy. I'll buy this one again. Good price as well.

I sometimes like an oaky, buttery chardardonny. This chardonnay definitely had some oak and butter, but not too overpowering. Nice bouquet of peach and lemon. Nice smooth buttery finish. Definitey a good choice for those that like oak and butter!
