Nozzole Chianti Classico Riserva 2004-Earth and Dust

Some information on Chianti: Chianti is a blend of several grapes with Sangiovese representing at least 75% of the blend. The wine has a personality of dry and acidic with a tendency towards spicy. somewhat like Shiraz. The most distinctive characteristic of Chianti is it's tart cherry flavor. Riserva wines typically are fuller bodied with a firmer tannin structure than standard Chianti.

Now the wine: The Nozzole Chianti Classico Riserva had the typical mouthfeel of leather and dust. Very mouth puckery! The tannins were firm yet mellowed as the evening wore on. The nose was bright cherry and spice. The finish was dissapointing, coming up short as I was expecting a long finish. Oh well!

Winery notes:This wine shows crisp, ripe red berry and cherry fruit flavors and aromas sustained by a fresh, acidic note offset by classic Sangiovese notes of earth, mushrooms and leather, with an elegant tannic backbone.

I liked this wine, like I do most Chiantis. I typically buy the Riservas because I like the fuller body. The Nozzole I enjoyed with  BBQ chicken. Food parings that would enhance your wine enjoyment would be spicy foods of meat or cheese and pastas with red sauce;no clam sauce please! The only draw back to the Nozzole was it's somewhat pricy bottle and the finish. The finish I expect would only improve with bottle age!

Would I buy this baby again? Though at $25/bottle I would try to search for a little bit of a bargain.
