A good little everyday drinking wine
I stumbled upon this little gem in an Italian Cafe in Soho, NYC. The wine list was short and simple
all Italian red or whites. This was the wine that caught my eye,Tasmorcan 2007 Barbera d'Asti. It's been such a long time since I drank a Barbera that I decided to give it a whirl. In the glass it was deep garnet. The bouquet was dark fruit, some cherry and blueberry. Not a hint of oak with little tannin structure. After about 1 hr in the glass, the wine opened up and was quite pleasant, yet nothing seductive asking you to come back for some more. It was not tempting me to have a second glass. To tell you the truth I was not blown away by this wine but after doing a little on-line research I had found the Wine Advocate had rated this Barbera a 89.
As stated in WA: "A reference-point value-priced Barbera from Asti, Tasmorcan offers superb value for the money. It might not be the last word in complexity but it provides immense drinking pleasure."
So there you have it folks. A nice little everyday drinking Italian red. Only to get better with age (hopefully).
Would I buy this wine again
.? I'll do a little bottle shopping and try to come up with a bottle. At less that $20/bottle it might be worth looking for.
