A recent trip to William Hill Estate Winery confirmed what Robert Parker remarked of the William Hill Estate Bench Blend Cabernet Sauvignon, “one of the finest Cabernet’s under this label in over 20 years”.

Under the direction of winemaker Ralf Holdenried, William Hill has taken on a new look and new elegance. Holdenried, who was trained in Germany has taken William Hill by the horns and has turned out a portfolio of great wines. The new group of Bench Blend wines is hand crafted from special blocks of Napa’s finest grapes yielding beautiful wines of elegance and richness.  The Bench Blend Cabernet Sauvignon is rich and intense with lush tannins. The wine is extremely approachable now, but will gain beauty with age. The Bench Blend Chardonnay exhibits layers of peaches and cream with a lasting finish.

Mr. Holdenried is especially proud of his first release of 2006 Estate Meritage; a beautiful blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Malbec, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The 2006 Estate Meritage is a small production release, bottled for wine club members and tasting room visits. It is William Hill’s first release of the blend and a winner.

The Napa Valley label wines are elegant with intense fruit, yet easily drinkable with or without food.  The Estate Wine label is a small production label available at their Napa Valley tasting room.

All said, William Hill has been transformed into a winery of elegance and consistency. The new portfolio of wines adds excitement and a new look to William Hill. Mr. Holdenried and group have moved the needle in a much needed direction.

Cheers! -Adrienne
