St.Germain for the holidays: Elderflower cocktails
And so the story goes: St. Germain is a French artisanal liqueur, created by Cooper Spirits; made with handpicked elderflower blossoms by Frenchmen that gather the blossoms at the foot of The Alps. And if that isn’t charming enough, these same Frenchmen then re mount their bikes and bring it to market; all done in a judicious manner to preserve the precious essence of the delicate flowers and to create a very intriguing elixir.
The floral liqueur is a favorite among many bartenders because it mixes so well with other ingredients; served at top restaurants in New York City and The Hamptons- inspired cocktails with names like The Parisian Manhattan and Blue Rain. Its flavor is sublime with hints of passion fruit, grapefruit and lemon. The nose is clean and floral. Sipping it you gain a sense of place; just like the finest French Burgundy or French Champagne it transports you to the French countryside. On the rocks it’s mysterious. Mixed with Champagne it becomes evocative.
The process of creating St. Germain is painstaking but worth it, made with 100% fresh handpicked elderflowers; best consumed within 6 months after opening because it has no preservatives. Double Gold Medal at the 2007 and 2008 San Francisco Spirits Competition. Because of the short blooming period of the elderflower there is a limited supply of this hard to find liquid.
The bottle design is refined and classy- Art Noveau. Each bottle of St. Germain is individually numbered to ensure authenticity for that vintage year.
