Drink it. think it. write it!
Time for a Malbec
American consumers are turning to Argentinean wines for their value and quality. According to Nielson Co. Argentinean wine sales have increased at least 29% in the last year. And why? Because Argentina’s wine industry has matured and has been turning out high quality, value oriented wines appealing to consumers in this economy.
Where wine drinkers have not given up their inbibing pleasure, many have scaled down to more value oriented brands. This is where Argentinean Malbec branding is making its strides. Malbec in particular has quite a following in many wine circles and especially the Millennial crowd. The grape varietal is lush, showing much finesse with spice and black pepper aromas. Malbec just happens to be one of those red wines that people fall in love with when they first start drinking red wine. It’s easily understood because it can be quite appealing to those that don’t like the firm, overpowering tannins of other red wines. Malbec tannins tend be soft and sweet and are easily enjoyed with a grilled steak or lamb, perfect for a summer evening BBQ or grill. In the land where gauchos were born, more meat is consumed per capita than anywhere else, Malbec is a perfect match.
Spotlight: Luigi Bosca Malbec Reserva 2007 (WS 90 pts, 88 pts WA) From the renowned Mendoza area of Argentina, Bodega Luigi Bosca is a family run enterprise producing quality wines for all occasions. The 2007 Malbec Reserva is 100 % Malbec fruit and is aged in French oak barrels for 12 months. It has an aging potential of up to 10 years.
An extremely drinkable wine upon opening with lots of smoke and spice when first opened. Nice round, sweet tannins. The wine only gets better once it evolves in the glass. Very enjoyable with a grilled piece of steak or even a simple grilled flank steak. Will have you coming back for more!
