Once a Dionysian, always a Dionysian. It’s a lifelong brotherhood or sisterhood, where members go to yearly Gatherings. No membership fee required but you should be a wine lover ready to share your wine and knowledge. If you are invited, be prepared to show your interest in The Society and go to several Gatherings before formally becoming a Dionysian.

Dionysian International Society has it’s US base in no other than New Jersey as led by Chancellor, Dr. John Mahoney. Dionysian’s share, tell stories and celebrate all things culture; wine, art, food and knowledge. It’s a festive occasion marked by gourmet food, excellent wine, and education.

The Society is the world’s oldest wine society, begun roughly 690 B.C. Gatherings (not meetings) take place yearly during the month of March. The evening Gala marks the induction of members into the fold, followed by a Midnight Port Party, where members show off their favorite ports, followed by more stories and education.

Dr. John Mahoney leads The Society. He is a wine educator, literature Professor in New Jersey and author. His wine knowledge surpasses all, as well as his story telling. He’s a master story teller and with every bottle he shares, there’s a little story behind the bottle.  And share he does, as well as other Dionysian’s—magnificent bottles of wines–Petrus, Lafite- Rothschild. If you’re not a wine drinker, he’ll make you into one.
